Disclaimer: This guide is designed to help you compare a basic log cabin kit to the complete log cabin package that Montana Mobile Cabins offers. In no way is this a guarantee of what a kit does or does not offer.
* Please note that a cabin comes with a standard porch off the gable end of the cabin; porches off the “long” side of the cabin are an additional option.

Montana Mobile Cabins (Shotgun Construction) understands that the decision to purchase a log cabin requires extensive time and research. There is a wide variety of log cabin/home construction styles and each builder brings something unique to the handcrafted log cabin/home.
What is a handcrafter?
Log home/cabin handcrafters have traditionally been small operations. We produce the logs for your cabin much the way the settlers did, by carefully selecting each individual tree. We use hand-held tools such as a draw knife to hand peel the logs, as well as chisels and scribes to notch and shape each log.

The manner in which we as a handcrafter select and cut our logs differs significantly from the methods used by manufacturers. Generally, in a manufactured kit you will find milled logs which have been cut to uniform shape and size. Our logsmiths select logs to span the full length of the wall; they cut and shape every log to fit a specific location in your cabin. When we work with full round logs the log retains the natural shape of the tree.

Our logsmiths work in groups of two skilled individuals. Custom building each and every cabin in the traditional way.

Each handcrafter is an artisan, and the finished cabin is a work of art.
Can I design my cabin?
Yes! Each cabin we build is uniquely designed for each customer, with the customer actually becoming part of the design process.
What is a mobile cabin?
At Shotgun Construction we have developed Montana Mobile Cabins, the concept of constructing a fully complete cabin at our location and shipping that complete cabin to your location. Our mobile cabins, range in size from a 6x9 child's playhouse up to a 18x24 which can be delivered inside the State of Montana. For deliveries outside of Montana please contact us for additional information regarding sizes that can be shipped complete outside of Montana. Where can a mobile cabin be delivered? Currently our complete mobile cabins are delivered only to the Western United States.
What is the price of a mobile cabin?
Montana Mobile Cabins start at $165 per square foot. Options such as plumbing, electrical, interior walls, cabinetry, appliances and side porches or porches off the "long" side of the cabin add to the base price of the cabin. (see price list)
What is included in a mobile cabin?
Our mobile cabins offer you a complete cabin: (see chart)
Are there delivery charges?
Delivery charges are incurred 100 miles from Whitehall, MT. Delivery charges are calculated based on mileage, current fuel rates and difficulty of assessing the site.
What type of foundation is needed for the mobile cabin?
Our mobile cabin package comes complete with a pier block foundation or you may choose, at your own expense, a wide variety of foundations; crawl space, slab, basement, etc. The price of the cabin package includes a pier block foundation and setting of the cabin on the same. Additional charges may apply if cabin is set on anything other than the pier block foundation that is part of the cabin package.
What is the difference between a complete mobile cabin and a log wall package?
A mobile cabin is a fully assembled cabin, which is built at our location and transported complete to your location. These cabins can be completed to the stage of offering plumbing and electricity, much like a modular home.

A log wall package is a set of all the crafted logs (the shell) needed for complete construction of your cabin/home.
Does Shotgun Construction sell "kits?"
We sell what is referred to as a log wall package.
